FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HAVE QUESTIONS?
Here are answers to some of the questions we’re commonly asked about osteopathy, rehabilitation and strength training at Resilience Health.
GENERAL
Resilience Health is an osteopathy, rehabilitation and strength training clinic in Singapore’s CBD.We combine osteopathic care, clinical strength training and evidence-based exercise to help people manage pain, recover from injury, rebuild strength and stay active. Our goal is not simply to help you feel better temporarily. Where appropriate, we help you progress from treatment into rehabilitation and strength training so that you can build the physical capacity and confidence to return to the things that matter to you.
We bring treatment, rehabilitation and strength training together under one approach. While hands-on treatment can be valuable, we don’t believe treatment should always end on the treatment table. We also look at how you move, what your body currently has the capacity to do and what you need it to be able to do in everyday life, work, training or sport. Our practitioners bring experience across osteopathy, exercise rehabilitation and strength and conditioning. This allows us to support you through different stages of recovery, from managing pain and restoring movement to progressively rebuilding strength and returning to meaningful activity. For some people, that means a short period of treatment. For others, it may mean progressing into structured rehabilitation or strength training. The approach is based on what you need rather than fitting everyone into the same pathway.
Resilience Health is located at 144 Robinson Road in Singapore’s CBD, within easy reach of Tanjong Pagar, Raffles Place and the Downtown area.We work with people who live, work and train in the CBD, as well as clients from across Singapore.
We work with a broad range of people, from those experiencing pain or recovering from injury to active adults, recreational and competitive athletes, and older adults who want to remain strong and physically independent. You don’t need to be athletic or experienced with exercise. We meet you at your current level and build from there.
No.Pain and injury are common reasons people first come to us, but our work doesn’t necessarily stop once symptoms improve. Some clients continue into rehabilitation or strength training to rebuild capacity, return to sport, become more confident with exercise or simply stay strong and capable as they get older. This reflects an important part of our philosophy: being out of pain is not always the same as being ready for everything you want your body to do.
People come to us with a wide range of musculoskeletal concerns, including back and neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, tendon problems, sports injuries and persistent aches or discomfort affecting work, training or everyday activities.Rather than focusing on a diagnosis or painful area alone, we consider the broader picture. This may include your movement, strength, physical capacity, training demands, work, lifestyle and other factors that may be relevant to your presentation. If we feel your condition requires assessment or management by another healthcare professional, we’ll let you know.
No. If you’re experiencing pain or an injury and aren’t sure where to start, an initial osteopathy consultation is usually the most appropriate first step. We’ll discuss your symptoms and goals, assess what may be contributing to the problem and recommend an appropriate approach.Depending on what you need, this may involve osteopathic treatment, exercise rehabilitation, clinical strength training, a combination of these, or referral to another healthcare professional.
No. You can book an appointment directly with Resilience Health without a doctor’s referral.
OSTEOPATHY
Osteopathy is a form of healthcare focused on the assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal problems. At Resilience Health, osteopathic care may include hands-on treatment, movement assessment, advice and exercise. We take an active approach to care. Where appropriate, treatment is combined with strategies that help you build the movement, strength and physical capacity needed for everyday life, exercise or sport.
Your first appointment begins with a conversation. We want to understand not only where you hurt, but how the problem is affecting your life and what you want to get back to doing. We’ll discuss your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, activity levels, training and goals.Your osteopath will then carry out an appropriate physical assessment, which may include looking at movement, mobility, strength and other relevant clinical findings. We’ll explain what we find, discuss your options and, where appropriate, begin treatment and provide advice or exercises.
Treatment is individualised and may include hands-on techniques, movement advice, exercise and strategies to help you manage your symptoms. We don’t follow the same treatment formula for every person. What we do is guided by your assessment, preferences, current capacity and goals. As you improve, the emphasis of your care may also change from symptom management towards movement, rehabilitation and building strength.
Where appropriate, yes.Exercise isn’t simply an add-on to treatment at Resilience Health. For many people, it is an important part of rebuilding their capacity and confidence.Exercises may initially be simple and targeted, then progress towards more meaningful strength and movement as your symptoms and ability improve.
There is no predetermined number of sessions. How much care you need depends on factors such as your symptoms, how long you’ve had them, your activity levels, goals and how you respond. We’ll review your progress and discuss this with you rather than recommending a fixed treatment package from the outset. Our aim is to help you become increasingly confident in managing and using your body rather than making you dependent on ongoing treatment.
Often, yes.We understand that telling an active person to simply stop everything isn’t always practical or necessary.Where appropriate, we can help you modify training volume, intensity or exercise selection so that you can continue being active while your symptoms settle and your capacity improves. We can then progressively build you back towards unrestricted training or sport.
CLINICAL STRENGTH TRAINING
Clinical strength training bridges the gap between rehabilitation and regular strength training. It combines rehabilitation principles with progressive strength and conditioning to help you rebuild strength, confidence and physical capacity. This may be particularly useful when your pain has improved but you don’t yet feel strong, confident or physically prepared enough to return to unrestricted exercise, sport or everyday activity.
Clinical strength training starts with an understanding of your injury history, symptoms, current physical capacity and goals.Rather than simply providing a workout, we consider what your body needs to become capable of doing and progressively train towards it.Our background in both musculoskeletal care and strength and conditioning allows us to bridge the space between traditional rehabilitation and performance-based training. That might mean helping someone confidently return to running after an injury, helping an athlete rebuild strength around an ongoing issue, or helping an older adult develop the strength required for everyday life.
No.We work from your starting point. Exercises, loads and complexity are adjusted to your ability and progressed as your strength and confidence improve. For someone new to strength training, this may begin with relatively simple movements. For an experienced athlete, the programme can become significantly more demanding.
Yes. Strength training can be adapted to different ages, abilities and training histories. For older adults, appropriately prescribed resistance training can help maintain or improve strength, physical function and independence. You don’t need previous gym experience. We start at an appropriate level and progressively build your capacity over time.
REMOTE PROGRAMMING
Remote programming provides an individualised strength and exercise programme that you can follow independently while receiving professional programming and guidance from Resilience Health.Rather than following a generic programme, your training is designed around your goals, training history, current capacity, available equipment and any relevant injuries or limitations.
A gym gives us more training options, but it isn’t essential.Your programme can be designed around the equipment, facilities and space you have available.
Yes.This is one of the advantages of our integrated approach. Your in-person assessment, treatment and rehabilitation can help inform your ongoing training programme.Remote programming can then provide structure and progression between appointments, while travelling or when you prefer to train independently.
PAEDIATRIC CARE
Yes. Johanna has specific paediatric experience and completed an internship in Paediatric Manual Medicine during her osteopathic training.Assessment and treatment are adapted to the child’s age, stage of development and individual needs.
We’ll first speak with the parent or caregiver to understand the reason for the visit, relevant medical history and any concerns. The consultation and assessment are adapted to the child’s age and needs, and we aim to make the experience comfortable and reassuring.Parents and caregivers are kept informed throughout the consultation.
Appointments and practical questions
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily.Depending on your symptoms and the assessment required, your practitioner may need to observe how a particular area of your body moves. We’ll explain what is required and make sure you’re comfortable throughout the assessment.
Coverage varies between insurers and individual policies. Some health insurance plans may provide benefits for osteopathic treatment. We recommend checking directly with your insurer to confirm whether your policy covers osteopathy and whether there are any referral, practitioner or documentation requirements.
We’ll let you know.If your assessment suggests that another healthcare professional, medical investigation or different form of care would be more appropriate, we’ll explain why and recommend an appropriate next step where possible. Our priority is helping you find the right care, even when that care isn’t with us.
Appointments for osteopathy and clinical strength training can be booked directly with Resilience Health. If you’re experiencing pain or an injury and aren’t sure which service to choose, we recommend starting with an initial osteopathy consultation so we can assess your needs and discuss the most appropriate next step.
